|       Tecson Orchids Center was formally established in 1972 by Mrs. Jacinta Tecson Urban. It was named by Mrs. Urban in honor of her beloved mother, the late Mrs. Lucia Tecson, who imbued her with a deep love for the beauty and grandeur of Philippine orchids. Mrs. Lucia Tecson, fondly called Inang by her family and friends, had been an orchid trader since the 1940s. She received numerous awards from the various orchid societies in the Philippines and was widely known in local orchid circles as the Grand Lady of Philippine orchids. |

Tecson Orchids Center first started its operations as a small greenhouse nursery in the backyard of Mrs. Urban's home inside Camp Crame where she worked as a civil service employee along with her husband, Pol, a military officer. In 1973, Mrs. Urban decided to finally resign from her office job in order to fully concentrate on her growing orchid business which has been attracting numerous local and foreign hobbyists and collectors of Philippine orchids. |
|       In 1978, with her company's reputation growing worldwide as a dependable supplier of Philippine orchids, Mrs. Urban developed her present orchid nursery which has since been visited by many orchid-loving friends and clients from various orchid societies around the world. Mrs. Urban has been responsible for the discovery and introduction of several orchid species which are all completely new to science, including the Paphiopedilum Urbanianum which was named in her honor by the late Dr. Jack A. Fowlie as featured in the July-August 1981 issue of the prestigious scientific orchid journal, The Orchid Digest. |

|       Overwhelmed with the growing demands of her orchid business, especially after the establishment of her flower and rent-a-plant businesses, Mrs. Urban convinced her husband Pol to take an early retirement from his military service and join her growing business full-time as its general manager. Mr. and Mrs. Pol Urban are now currently busy developing a 5-hectare orchid farm in the province of Bulacan which they envision will become the biggest orchid nursery exclusively dedicated to the propagation and conservation of Philippine orchids. | |
